Updated: How Much Influence Does Someone's Pastor Have Anyway?

It depends on which political party they are in.

Remember the problems Mitt Romney had over his religion. That is all you heard for months. It was so bad he had to give a speech about that subject alone.

Well what about Obama. Here is the latest from his former Pastor:

Sen. Barack Obama's pastor says blacks should not sing "God Bless America" but "God damn America."

The Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Obama's pastor for the last 20 years at the Trinity United Church of Christ on Chicago's south side, has a long history of what even Obama's campaign aides concede is "inflammatory rhetoric," including the assertion that the United States brought on the 9/11 attacks with its own "terrorism."

Of course, Obama has stated that he don't agree with all the positions of the pastor. Let us all HOPE that he does not agree with this:

"The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing 'God Bless America.' No, no, no, God damn America, that's in the Bible for killing innocent people," he said in a 2003 sermon. "God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme."

Rev. White retired from the church back in Feb. 2008. On Rush today it was revealed that he now has joined Obama's campaign team as a religious adviser. If I were Obama I think I would CHANGE that. (I knew I could work CHANGE and HOPE in this post)

I wonder how much of this will be brought up in the coming days? I would venture to guess that it will be swept under the table pretty quick.

Update:
Rev. White leaves Obama's campaign.
