Oklahoma 's State House Demands Sovereignty

Steamed over a perceived increase in federal usurping of states' rights, Oklahoma's House of Representatives told Washington, D.C., to back off.

Joint House Resolution 1089, passed by an overwhelming 92-3 margin, reasserts Oklahoma's sovereignty under the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, and, according to the resolution's own language, is "serving notice to the federal government to cease and desist certain mandates."

The Tenth Amendment states, "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people."

Charles Key, the Republican state representative who authored the resolution, told WND that he introduced it because he believes the federal government's overstepping of its bounds has put our constitutional form of government in danger.

"The more we stand by and watch the federal government get involved in areas where it has no legal authority, we kill the Constitution a little at a time," he said. "The last few decades, the Constitution has been hanging by a thread."

Specifically, Resolution 1089 says the following:

"The State of Oklahoma hereby claims sovereignty under the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States over all powers not otherwise enumerated and granted to the federal government by the Constitution of the United States."

The resolution resolves that Oklahoma will "serve as notice and demand to the federal government, as our agent, to cease and desist, effective immediately, mandates that are beyond the scope of these constitutionally delegated powers."

A statute was set to take effect July 1st that would really crack down on illegal aliens. But, U.S. District Judge Robin J. Cauthron stopped it from going into effect. Read about it at the link.

It is about time some states started standing up for themselves. We are seeing the federal government overreach it's boundaries on a regular basis.

I believe sovereignty to be the key to the success of this nation. That is why I am against the invasion this country faces from illegal immigration. The leaders of this country are not interested in protecting it's citizens from the 12-20 million or more invaders. But do the individual states have the authority to address this problem?

I believe that each state's sovereignty is just as important as the sovereignty of the country as a whole. That is what has brought us to where we are today. And that is what will ensure our survival far into the future. Yes, Oklahoma has every right to defend itself against illegal immigration.

The federal government has been successful in eroding this concept. Sure it has taken decade upon decade of work, but it is becoming more and more evident that "states rights" will soon be a thing of the past.

What can be done to turn this around? The article mentions succession. I have been seeing more and more of this word's use lately. Although that is one option, I do not feel it is the right step.

The solution lies within understanding the problem. The problem can be related to the old story of the schoolyard bully. He will keep picking at you until you stand up to him, right? This action by the Oklahoma's House relates to the little kid getting up in the face of the bully. Most of the time that is all that it takes. Of course in this instance their are 50 little kids going against a dominating bully. Can little Oklahoma take on the bully? Well yes. But will it do any good? Probably not. But what if 10, 15, or even 20 of those little kids decide that enough is enough? I would venture to say that may make the bully think about it a little harder.

The sole power to retaliate against the assault on states rights lie with the individual states themselves. My desire would be for many more little states to stand up to the federal government. Whether it would do any good in changing the direction we are going in is any body's guess. One thing is for sure, we cannot continue to follow the same path we are on right now.

I believe I'll throw an e-mail out to a couple of members of my state legislature right now.

President Bush Pushes The Merida Initiative Forward

If you don't know what the Merida Initiative is: it is a plan to provide Mexico with $500 million to:

This partnership would support coordinated strategies to:

• Produce a safer and more secure hemisphere where criminal organizations no longer threaten governments and regional security; and
• Prevent the entry and spread of illicit drugs and transnational threats throughout the region and to the United States.

To achieve these goals, President Bush has requested $550 million as part of a multi-year program to provide:

• Non-intrusive inspection equipment, ion scanners, canine units for Mexican customs, for the new federal police and for the military to interdict trafficked drugs, arms, cash and persons.
• Technologies to improve and secure communications systems to support collecting information as well as ensuring that vital information is accessible for criminal law enforcement.
• Technical advice and training to strengthen the institutions of justice – vetting for the new police force, case management software to track investigations through the system to trial, new offices of citizen complaints and professional responsibility, and establishing witness protection programs.
• Helicopters and surveillance aircraft to support interdiction activities and rapid operational response of law enforcement agencies in Mexico.
• Initial funding for security cooperation with Central America that responds directly to Central American leaders’ concerns over gangs, drugs, and arms articulated during July SICA meetings and the SICA Security Strategy.
• Includes equipment and assets to support counterpart security agencies inspecting and interdicting drugs, trafficked goods, people and other contraband as well as equipment, training and community action programs in Central American countries to implement anti-gang measures and expand the reach of these measures in the region.

Does this sound crazy to you? Me too.

We can't spend money to secure our own border, but we can dish out $500 million to a country whose leaders keep encouraging it's citizens to thumb their noses at our laws.

President Bush on Wednesday showcased his request for $500 million in U.S. military assistance to help Mexico combat murderous drug cartels in a bid to build congressional support for the more contentious part of his spending package — the latest multibillion dollar request for emergency war spending in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Bush crafted plans for the U.S. military assistance to Mexico at a meeting with Mexican President Felipe Calderon 14 months ago and sketched details last October, including money for military equipment such as helicopters, training and assistance in combating corruption in the criminal justice system.

I have a great idea. Use the $500 million to protect the United States from illegals trying to enter this country and undermine our sovereignty.

Of course, with the current candidates for President, this is the type of thing we will grow accustomed to in the years to come.

Scovel III reluctantly admitted under intense questioning from Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., that Mexican drivers were being designated at the border as "proficient in English" even though they could explain U.S. traffic signs only in Spanish.

"Does the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration test for English proficiency at the border include questions about U.S. highway signs?" Dorgan asked.

"Yes," Scovel replied. "The FMCSA English proficiency test at the border did not originally include U.S. highway signs, but now it does."

"Do you show a driver an octagonal 'STOP' sign at the border and qualify him if he explains the sign means 'ALTO'?" an incredulous Dorgan pressed.

"Alto" is the Spanish word for "Stop."

"Yes," Scovel answered reluctantly. "If the stop sign is identified as 'alto,' the driver is considered English proficient."

Dorgan drew the obvious conclusion, "In other words the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is allowing Mexican drivers in the demonstration project to prove their proficiency in English by responding to the examiner's questions in Spanish"

Are you kidding me? I believe I will stop writing about immigration and the attempt to hand this country over to Mexico for a while. I am still completely against it. But since it is a non issue this election I am going to lay off the subject for a while. The reason I think it is non issue is because all three of the contenders share the same view as Bush; Let Mexico have all they want, we'll pick up the tab. I will keep my eyes open and post anything of real significance though.

Tennessee Getting Tougher On Illegals?

I hope so:

NASHVILLE - A proposal to make it a crime for illegal immigrants to accept pay for work done in Tennessee is headed for floor votes in both chambers of the General Assembly.

It is past time to do something about this issue. Something needs to be done about the employers that hire the illegal aliens too. But I guess that is not for the States to decide:

Haynes says the Legislature is prevented from enacting tougher penalties against employers who hire illegal immigrants because the state must defer to federal laws on the matter.

Another fine example of the federal government overstepping it's boundaries. Let your State Representatives know that you want this passed. Let them know that we need to take aggressive steps to ensure the sovereignty of this state and this country.

Hillary Says Something I Agree With, Sort Of

I know it is hard to believe. In tonights debate she was talking about illegal immigration. She said: “We need a path to legalization to bring the immigrants out of the shadows.” (not what I agree with) She went on: “If they committed a crime, they should be deported. But a path to everyone else.” (this is what I agree with) I will go along with this 100%. If they committed a crime deport them! A path (to citizenship) to everyone else. Of course, the number of people on that path would be nil, since it is a damn crime to enter this country illegally.

Bush Wants $1.4 Billion To Help Secure MEXICO's Southern Border

The plan is called “The Merida Initiative.” Seems that the White House has had this plan in the works for nearly a year with little congressional input on either side of the border.

We can’t finish our own border fence, properly supply our immigration agents and border patrol with all the equipment and resources they need, or get our house in order. Yet, the Bush administration wants to fork over $1.4 billion to Mexico and Central America–with much of it going into the hands of corrupt law enforcement officials and government bureaucrats who have worked tirelessly to undermine our immigration laws. The funding is tucked into the 2008 supplemental budget.

This is one of the craziest things I have heard of in quite some time. The Bush Administration needs to worry about the US, not MexAmeriCanada. This is an insult to the people of this great country. We spoke up and wanted OUR border secure.

Hillary Flip Flops On Driver's Licenses For Illegals

Hillary puts on a display of "flopping and twitching", at least she is good at it:

Yesterday, in an attempt to neutralize one possible threat at the debate, her campaign announced that Mrs. Clinton would not support driver’s licenses for illegal immigrants as president. It is the latest formulation of her position, which has shifted since it became a tripping point in the last televised debate on Oct. 30.

Her advisers say they hope the matter will now be off the table, but Mrs. Clinton’s top rivals made clear that they would continue to press the argument they have been making in recent weeks, that she is inconsistent and overly political.

“When it takes two weeks and six different positions to answer one question on immigration, it’s easier to understand why the Clinton campaign would rather plant their questions than answer them,” said Bill Burton, a spokesman for Senator Barack Obama of Illinois, a rival in the race for the nomination.

“Wow, this is dizzying,” added Eric Schultz, a spokesman for former Senator John Edwards of North Carolina, another rival.

Yes, she has taken several different positions on this in the last few weeks. Yes, this is dizzying. It is par for the course though. She says what she thinks people want to hear. The only problem is she still is the most likely candidate to win the democratic nomination.

The good thing about that is the fact that she will hear about this all through the general election too. I know I am going against the grain here, but I think she is a very weak candidate. She should have no problem convincing the left she is the person for the job. The problem for her is convincing the average Joe voter who will not show up in Jan. or Feb. It is getting the vote of the "regular" American population.

Good News, "Arch-Conservative" To Run Against Graham In S.C.

Buddy Witherspoon, a long-time South Carolina committeeman to the Republican National Committee, will be announcing this week that he will challenge Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) in the GOP primary, according to a source familiar with his intentions.

Witherspoon, an orthodontist, is known as an arch-conservative on social and cultural issues, and plans to run a campaign centered on fighting illegal immigration.

I would like to see all the RINOs get challenged by true conservatives.

San Francisco Will Not Be Outdone

You can bet on one thing, if any city in the U.S. decides to do something crazy, San Fran. is going to be right on their heels.

New York is abandoning their plan to give driver's licenses to illegals:

New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer said Wednesday he was abandoning a plan to issue driver's licenses to illegal immigrants, but said that the federal government had "lost control" of its borders and left states to deal with the consequences.

"I have concluded that New York state cannot successfully address this problem on its own," Spitzer said at a news conference after meeting wtih members of the state's Congressional delegation.

Spitzer said overwhelming public opposition led to his decision.

Now San Fran is going to give ID cards to all residents, legal or not:

(11-13) 15:56 PST San Francisco - -- The Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to issue municipal identification cards to city residents - regardless of whether they are in the country legally - and to double the amount of public money available to candidates running for supervisor.

Supervisor Tom Ammiano, who authored the ID card legislation, said the program is a smart public safety measure because it would make residents living on the social margins of San Francisco more likely to seek the help of police and could give them more access to banking services.

"People are afraid to report crimes," Ammiano said, referring to illegal immigrants who avoid local law enforcement authorities over fear of being arrested or deported by federal immigration officials.

I have heard this "fear of being arrested" thing to much. These illegals can't report a crime, but they can march up and down the street and wave Mexican flags. They can go on TV and complain because this country is so mean to people who break the law.

Giving Licenses To Illegals Would Be Very Unpopular

A new poll finds voters oppose drivers' licenses for illegal aliens by a nearly five-to-one margin:

Seventy-seven percent (77%) of American adults are opposed to making drivers licenses available to people who are in the country illegally.

This is set to be one of the major issues next November. Americans oppose giving licenses to illegal aliens. 88% of Republicans, 68% of Democrats, and 75% of independents all agree this should not happen.

Fred On Hillary's "Drivers Licenses for Illegal Aliens" Debate Answer

While Hillary Clinton was speaking out both sides of her mouth at last night’s debate over the issue of drivers licenses for illegal immigrants, what went unsaid is that this is a recipe for increased voter fraud. Under the federal “Motor Voter” law (the National Voter Registration Act of 1993), states must provide applicants for drivers licenses with the opportunity to register to vote.

Giving legal drivers licenses to illegal immigrants is wrong and would provide them the opportunity to register to vote in our country. People who are not citizens of the United States should not be encouraged by pandering politicians to further break our laws and risk the health of our political system.

RWN: Proof Of Rudy's Bad Intentions On Illegal Immigration

If you turn off the job magnet by cracking down on businesses that knowingly hire illegals, the overwhelming majority of illegals who are already here will leave and the torrent of illegals crossing our Southern border will slow to a trickle.

On the other hand, if you take the Rudy Giuliani approach, then the illegal immigration problem becomes unsolvable because you really can't round up and deport them all. The only practical way to get rid of most of the illegals who are already here is to make life as miserable for them as possible, cut off their sources of income, and thereby force them to self-deport.

After several false starts Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) continues to push the DREAM Act. What is the DREAM Act? A nightmare.

The act would allow any illegal immigrant who entered the country before the age of 16 to receive conditional residency, which could then be converted to a non-conditional residency. These illegal immigrants can apply for this form of amnesty so long as they are under 30 and they weren’t older than 16 when they came to the country. And, of course, there is no way of proving when they illegally entered our country. After all, they are undocumented. Aliens would qualify even if they received and ignored a removal order if that order was received before they were 16.

Essentially, the DREAM Act puts some illegal aliens in a better position for residency than legal aliens who have played by the rules.

The "Dream Act" Is Coming Back

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., is reviving and fast-tracking plans to grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens already within U.S. boundaries, and a vote is expected as early as tomorrow, according to opponents.

Just a few months after intense pressure from U.S. citizens triggered the rejection of President Bush's comprehensive immigration plan, a compromise supported by Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass. – the DREAM Act proposal by Sen. Dick Durbin, R-Ill. – is being rushed through the Senate.

Durbin's office refused to return a WND call requesting comment.

"In many ways this bill is worse than Bush-Kennedy because this is blatant deception on the part of the Senate to get a massive amnesty passed," asserted Steve Elliott, president of Grassfire.org.
