Posts You Should Read

I have been out of it for a while. Between work and some other things going on in my personal life I have not felt like researching much. I've been reading a few blogs here and there. Anyway, I can't come up with one reason to look forward to this election.

Anyway, here a few things I have found:

Hillbilly White Trash

Hot Air

Confederate Yankee

Ace Of Spades

Hopefully things will get back to normal around here soon.

Please consider this an open post. Let me know what has been going on out there.

Thank you

Obama Bows Out Of North Carolina Debate

Stated reason:

We regret to inform you that the proposed Democratic Presidential Debate scheduled for April 27 has been cancelled due to time constraints and logistical issues associated with such a large, national event.

Or this:

...Barack Obama's advisers refused to accept an invitation to debate in North Carolina because they did not want to give Hillary Clinton any excuse to stay in the race beyond Tuesday, assuming she doesn't fare that well....

Could it be because during the last debate, he showed his lack of ability to answer the "tough" questions? Then his supporters cried foul at the "unfair" questions. He looked bad after the last one. I don't think he will be in too big of a hurry to jump into another one.

Deroy Murdock: "More Oil Drilling, Please"

And I whole heartedly agree:

How much more pain must Americans endure before our masters in Washington let oil companies punch a few holes in the Alaskan tundra? Must we shiver pennilessly in the dark before we may extract new domestic petroleum deposits? Or shall we simply keep buying $114 barrels of oil from people who want us dead?

Of course, we all know that it is the oil executive's fault for being so greedy:

Exxon’s $40.6 billion profit for 2007 is dwarfed by its $404.5 billion revenue and $199.5 billion crude-oil expense. Of course Exxon’s sales have swelled: Americans pay more for gasoline as OPEC charges record cartel prices for crude, and rising global demand exceeds stagnant supplies. While Exxon’s 10-percent profit outpaces the oil industry’s 8.3 percent average gain, Coca-Cola’s 20.7-percent profit margin and Microsoft’s 27.5 percent turnover should make Exxon’s executives jealous. When will Congress denounce Coke and Microsoft’s “corporate pillage?”

Read the rest at the link.

We need to drill in Alaska as well as offshore. And anywhere else we can supply ourselves with our own oil.

As for the caribou:

...Environmentally friendly techniques direct numerous drill bits sideways, like covert tentacles, from a handful of surface holes. The allegedly fragile caribou seem quite aroused by all this; their Central Arctic Herd has quintupled from 6,000 in 1978 to 32,000 today. Meanwhile, petroleum development hums at Alaska’s nearby Prudhoe Bay.

Mr. Murdock finishes up his article with a great question:

Will we finally grow up and harness our resources, or will we childishly weep over imaginary threats to wildlife, dispatch supertankers of cash to the Middle East, and watch our petrodollars sponsor bomb belts and exploding aircraft?

It is time. Our economy is being strained to it's limits by the high price of fuel. Airlines are shutting down. Food prices are going through the roof. Many hard working people are losing their jobs. Many more are having trouble keeping up with their finances.

Drill already.

Ben Stein's "Expelled - No Intelligence Allowed"

The super trailer:

American Hunters and Shooters Association (AHSA) Endorses Obama

Does this mean that Obama is not an enemy of gun owners?:

Today, as President of the American Hunters and Shooters Association (AHSA), I announced our endorsement of Senator Barack Obama for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States. ...

Of course it doesn't:

You see, they are the righteous pro-hunting, pro-conservation, pro-gun group! The NRA betrays hunters at every turn. At least, that’s what they tell us. Behold Ray Schoenke’s screed at The Daily Kos. It’s so disjointed I can’t really fathom the point other than tooting the AHSA’s horn. Which is amazing, since they have no significant accomplishments nor significant membership that I know of. Only a screed with zero actual evidence about why they’re good and NRA is bad....

...

When you follow the money, they read like a who’s who of gun grabbers. They are a front for the anti-gun Democratic Leadership Council so that anti-gun politicos can say they belong to a group that sounds pro-gun.

Members (five of them that they disclose) of the AHSA are anti-gun lobbyists.

They’re basically a shill group set up so that anti-gun candidates can try to woo the hunting crowd. Note that their only endorsement victory (McCaskill) did not sign on to support Heller.

AHSA wrote a non-opposition opposition to Heller for it’s wording.

Read the rest at the link.

AHSA was set up to support people like Obama. This is an effort to make anti gun candidates look more appealing to gun owners.

Should Taxpayer Funding Be Pulled From The Carter Center?

That is the least that should happen:

A U.S. lawmaker introduced legislation Wednesday to strip former President Jimmy Carter's Georgia-based scholarly institution of taxpayer support because of Carter's plans to meet with the top leaders of the Palestinian terror group Hamas.

And a second lawmaker presented a non-binding resolution that would urge former presidents from "freelance diplomacy" in direct response to Carter's visit.

...

"America must speak with one voice against our terrorist enemies," Rep. Joe Knollenberg, R-Mich., said in a statement from his office. "It sends a fundamentally troubling message when an American dignitary is engaged in dialogue with terrorists. My legislation will make sure that taxpayer dollars are not being used to support discussions or negotiations with terrorist groups."

Knollenberg said the Carter Center has received about $19 million in taxpayer funds since 2001. He named his bill the Coordinated American Response to Extreme Radicals Act — or CARTER Act, for short. The Carter Center is housed at Emory University in Atlanta.

What Carter is doing is despicable. His passport should have been revoked before he left.

Don't expect this to pass even though it should. Using taxpayer's money to fund things such as this should not be tolerated.

Do We Need The IRS?

What do you think:

The FairTax Act (HR 25, S 1025) is nonpartisan legislation. It abolishes all federal personal and corporate income taxes, gift, estate, capital gains, alternative minimum, Social Security, Medicare, and self-employment taxes and replaces them with one simple, visible, federal retail sales tax administered primarily by existing state sales tax authorities…

The FairTax:

  • Enables workers to keep their entire paychecks
  • Enables retirees to keep their entire pensions
  • Refunds in advance the tax on purchases of basic necessities
  • Allows American products to compete fairly
  • Brings transparency and accountability to tax policy
  • Ensures Social Security and Medicare funding
  • Closes all loopholes and brings fairness to taxation
  • Abolishes the IRS

This would be a big step in the right direction for this country.

Which Candidate Is Hamas Endorsing?

No surprise here:

JERUSALEM – On the eve of a planned meeting with former President Jimmy Carter, the isolated Hamas terrorist organization has expressed "hope" Sen. Barack Obama will win the presidential elections and "change" America's foreign policy.

"We like Mr. Obama, and we hope that he will win the elections," Ahmed Yousuf, Hamas' top political adviser in the Gaza Strip, said in an exclusive interview with WND and with the John Batchelor Show on WABC Radio in New York.

"I hope Mr. Obama and the Democrats will change the political discourse. ... I do believe [Obama] is like John Kennedy, a great man with a great principal. And he has a vision to change America to make it in a position to lead the world community, but not with humiliation and arrogance," Yousuf said, speaking from Gaza.

They do not want Obama because he will lead the world community. They want Obama because he will pull out of the Middle East, allowing them to have their way with the region. They know he is the weakest candidate on foreign affairs.

You can bet, the candidate that Hamas endorses is the wrong candidate for America as well as the world.

Truer Words Were Never Spoken

Read this post from John Hawkins of Right Wing News.

The President Wants A Bill To Combat Global Warming

We may starve to death, but at least we will be cooler:

President Bush is poised to change course and announce as early as this week that he wants Congress to pass a bill to combat global warming, and will lay out principles for what that should include.

Specifics of the policy are still being fiercely debated, but Bush administration officials have told Republicans in Congress that they feel pressure to act now because they fear a coming regulatory nightmare. It would be the first time Mr. Bush has called for statutory authority on the subject.

"This is an attempt to move the administration and the party closer to the center on global warming. With these steps, it is hoped that the debate over this is over, and it is time to do something," said an administration source close to the White House who is familiar with the planning and who said to expect an announcement this week.

Like we need for this administration to move closer to the center.

With the price of food going through the roof and gas strangling this country, the President wants to go ahead and create a bill that would push the prices up more. All for a hoax. That is right I said it. They are pushing this stuff down our throats whether it is true or not.

Evidently Obama Does Not Really Want To Be President

Barack H. Obama has lost his mind:

An outrageous Kinsleyan gaffe? Sure. But give it a day or so, to let the Jedi mind trick work its magic. Then the left will tell us what he “really meant”:

You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them…And they fell through the Clinton Administration, and the Bush Administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not.

And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.

There is no way this man should be President. He is so out of touch with the people of this country it is scary.

I am an optimistic person. Sure I get a little upset now and then when I see people like this trying to destroy my country. That has nothing to do with the fact that I treasure my right to keep and bear arms, or how I choose to worship. These are rights that have been given to me by the Bill of Rights. I believe that the United States should be a sovereign nation. Not because of bitterness but because it is imperative to its survival. For a man running for President to say this is unbelievable.

What is just as bad is this statement from Kirsten Powers:

An intriguing quote from KP:

“It comes off very badly,” Democratic strategist Kirsten Powers said of the small-town America remarks. “They are things that I think in a liberal world sound totally normal, and outside of that world I don’t know that he appreciates how it sounds. And it just sounds very elitist, and it sounds like he’s looking down on people.”

My beliefs have finally been confirmed. The Democrats live in their own little world. And it is a screwed up place. I know I don't want to go there. Now we know what CHANGES Obama wants to make.

Of course, he is trying to sweep it under the rug:

His team’s had time now to sand down the edges of the spin, so here’s the more polished version of last night’s Cliff’s Notes reading of “What’s the Matter with Kansas?” The nut graf via ABC:

There are a whole bunch of folks in small towns in Pennsylvania, in towns right here in Indiana, in my home town in Illinois, who are bitter. They are angry… So I said, well ya know, when you’re bitter, you turn to what you can count on. So people, ya know they vote about guns or they take comfort from their faith, and their family, and their community, and they get mad about illegal immigrants who are coming over to this country, or they get frustrated about how things are changing. That’s a natural response.

He will need a damn big rug!

Happy Birthday To The Submarine Force

Today is a day that will bring mixed feelings to any man that wears Dolphins. It is the 108th birthday of the United States Submarine Force. It is also the 45th anniversary of the loss of the USS Thresher (SSN 593).

To all that have spent time "punching holes", Happy Birthday. The days I spent aboard the USS West Va. (SSBN 736) have always made me proud. Proud to have served with the best this country has to offer. If you know a Submariner, thank him. You have no idea what he had to go through in keeping this country safe.

I would also like to pay my respects to the 129 men who died aboard the USS Thresher who are on Eternal Patrol.

Iran With Nuclear Weapons

Unfortunately, it looks like it will come to that. What can be done has been a key issue the last several years. Charles Krauthammer's opinion is that we will have to treat Iran the way we treated the USSR during the cold war:

During the Cold War, we prevented an attack not only on the U.S. but also on America’s allies by extending the American nuclear umbrella — i.e., declaring that any attack on our allies would be considered an attack on the United States.

Such a threat is never 100 percent credible. Nonetheless, it made the Soviets think twice about attacking our European allies. It kept the peace.

Go over and read the rest. It is a good article.

I don't think this will be as strong a deterrent as it was with the Soviets. This worked with them because we had just proven our strength and determination during WWII.

Iran does not fear the US. They have thumbed their noses at us for a long time now, and they now feel the US is weak. They have declared this many times over the last 20 years. I agree to some extent. Not about our military mind you, about our leaders. They have proven time and again that they are more interested in popularity than keeping the US safe. As far as the UN goes, that whole organization is a joke and Iranian leaders know it.

What I think needs to be done is this. We need to give Iran a reason to fear us. We need to stand with Israel to ensure Iran does not get these weapons in the first place.

I do not see that happening though.

So then we would have to take Mr. Krauthammer's advise:

How to create deterrence? The way John Kennedy did during the Cuban missile crisis. President Bush should issue the following declaration, adopting Kennedy’s language while changing the names of the miscreants:

It shall be the policy of this nation to regard any nuclear attack upon Israel by Iran, or originating in Iran, as an attack by Iran on the United States, requiring a full retaliatory response upon Iran.

Of course I don't think this will happen. If this warning were given, Iran would not take it seriously. Given the actions of our leaders over the last 20 years I can't say as I blame them.

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed Needs An Ankle Bracelet

From Right Wing News:

Over at the popular liberal website, Mike Whitney is actually arguing....ah, why don't I just let you be surprised by the stupidity,

Bush has done everything in his power to place himself above the law, particularly when it comes to deciding issues of life and death. These are not matters that should be left to the flawed judgment of one man. By ignoring the flagrant violations of the law in the imprisonment and subsequent torture of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, we further reinforce the precedents that Bush is setting. That's a blueprint for dictatorship.

...However horrible he may be, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed poses no threat to our system or our freedom. Bush does. We'd be better off letting one guilty man free than destroying the laws that protect all of us from liberty's greatest enemy; the State.

Mohammed has been abducted, tortured, and deprived of his rights. Give him an ankle bracelet, and let him go.

Yes, that's right, we have a liberal actually arguing that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the 9/11 mastermind who personally beheaded Daniel Pearl, should be released with an "ankle bracelet."

I have an idea. Let's give Mohammed this ankle bracelet and let him serve his probation at Mr. Whitney's house. And as a gift for being so mean to him we could get him a brand new set of kitchen knives.

How Could Any Sane Person Support Obama?

Watch this video and then answer the question:

The man wants to basically dismantle our military at a time in history that we need it the most. He scares the hell out of me. But what scares me more is that people are seriously giving this man a chance to become our President.

Robert Maginnis at Human Events breaks this down here.

He sums it up this way:

Senator Obama’s national security views expressed in his 52-second video reflect that of a knee-jerk liberal academic who thinks that the US is the primary threat to world peace. His views are dangerously naive and his statements suggest a shallow understanding of national security issues and in some cases his facts are wrong.

Read the whole thing, PLEASE. It is well worth it.

By the way, as a former Missile Tech specializing on the Trident II D-5 nuclear missile, I can ensure you they are not on "hair trigger" mode. He obviously knows nothing about how this world works. He would be a nightmare come true for this country.

Hard Times Ahead For Conservatives

With both Democrats bending over backwards trying to lose the nomination as well as the general election, it looks like John McCain has a real shot at the presidency. In most polls he is ahead of either Obama or Clinton. One poll I saw has he and Rice beating an Obama/Clinton ticket. While I have to admit he is the best of the three, he is still not the best for the party.

On Sean Hannity's radio show the other day, Sean predicted that he would disagree with McCain 40% of the time. Newt Gingrich was on there yesterday and he predicted 20 % of the time he would disagree. I would put it about 50-65%. He will concede way too much to the Democrats. Sure he appears to be moving in the right direction now. But looks can be deceiving.

He has a long history of siding with the left. I do not see that changing. I could go on to list many issues he has sided with the Democrats on, but you already know them.

What I would like to write about is how a McCain presidency would effect our party. Some 14 or so years ago we took control of Congress. We did this because of a conservative movement that the "typical" person of this country had long been waiting for. The Republicans won control because of conservatism, plain and simple. They lost control 12 years later because of their slow but steady move to the left.

That trend has continued to the point we are at today. I have been hearing a lot of talk about McCain winning over some typically blue states. While that would certainly help his chances of being elected, it would also send a message to the Republican party. That message would be to continue on the present path toward liberalism. While it is true that there are some good conservative members of Congress, their are also a lot of RINOs there. Expect that number to grow. That is the message the Republican party has received. You can bet they have heard it loud and clear.

The worst thing that can happen to the Republican party is a McCain victory. Sure he would do the least damage to the country while in office. But looking at the long term effects on the party. The damage would be disastrous. It would give them cause to continue on their downward spiral into liberalism.

Can We Get This Man A Job At The Capital?

Confederate Yankee: "Is Barack Obama A Communist?"

You may have noticed a drop off in the amount of posting I have been doing. There are several reasons for this. I have been busy with real life stuff and I am not that excited about the choices in the coming election. I could not pass on this;

Is Barack Obama A Communist?

All these are good questions:

So I'm asking: What are Barack Obama's politics?

Is Obama "merely" another radical leftist like another one of his mentors, Saul Alinsky?

Is he a Marxist, as would befit his continued 20-year association with a church founded on the Marxism underlying Black Liberation Theology?

Is he a socialist revolutionary with Maoist tendencies that wants to wage war against the United States like his close friend, fellow Woods Fund board member, and domestic terrorist William Ayers?

Is he a communist, like his mentor Davis, his father, his ethic-cleansing, Islamist-coddling cousin, and even his own wife Michelle Obama, who insisted just yesterday the thought that, "someone is going to have to give up a piece of their pie so that someone else can have more."

Read the whole post at the link.

It is true that we do not know much about his politics. It is sad that he will most likely be the Democratic nominee and no one can answer these questions. Not surprising from the Dems, just sad.

One thing is for sure, he is wrong for this country.

But then all three of them are wrong for this country.

Another Missed Opportunity For Conservatism

We could not have asked for two better candidates to run against. Clinton and Obama are like two of the Stooges. We could have defeated either of these two in the general election. Let's think about it for a minute.

Hillary Clinton would not know the truth if it bit her on the butt. She is not even close to being qualified for her Senate seat, much less the presidency. Her personality is a big negative for her. Bill keeps bringing bad press. And so on.

Barack Obama has less experience than Clinton. He holds the title of "the most left wing member of congress." He is tied in with Rezco. Not to mention the great Rev. Wright. And so on.

That is not even considering their ridiculous positions on the issues.

So what did we do? We gave them the third Stooge.

This is taken from a post at Hillbilly White Trash:

How did America come to this point? We have an unpopular president and an unpopular war which should make this election a cake walk for the opposition party. Yet the best the Democrats can do is to come up with two completely hollow people with no real experience or qualifications beyond their melanon or sexual plumbing. Neither of these people seem able to unite their party and either of them seem easy pickings for even a moderately qualified Republican.

But the Republicans don't nominate a Republican. Instead they pick a closeted Democrat whose greatest joy in life is kicking the Republican party's conservative base and preening for the ultra-liberal mainstream media as he helps pass left-liberal pieces of legislation.

Those two paragraphs pretty much sums it all up. We had the perfect opportunity and we blew it. Who does our side put up? A man who is further left than a lot of the Democrats in the Senate. Check out some of the positions McCain has taken:

Is There Anything Hillary Can't Do?

A little boy asks Hillary the following question: "My mom makes minimum wage and even though it went up, her hours were cut. And we are not making any more money. Can you help her?"

Watch the video (it is about 3:30 in):

She goes on to say that she can help. But does not specify how. This is the very thing conservatives warned against before it was raised. For her to bring this up is amazing. She has just proven all of us on the right correct. Of course, you can bet she did not mean to.

No Privacy For TN Handgun Carry Permit Holders

Thank you TN House Speaker Jimmy Naifeh:

The Tennessee Department of Safety has issued more than 339,000 handgun carry permits since October 1996. Yesterday, state House Speaker Jimmy Naifeh, using his usual thuggish tactics, killed legislation that would have safeguarded the personal information of those carry permits, and also killed legislation that would have allowed carry permit holders to carry their gun in restaurants.

I am not going to discuss the privacy bill. That one is self explanatory. Every American has the right to privacy.

I do not understand the opposition to the bill that would allow someone to carry their weapon in a restaurant that sells alcohol. The bill plainly states that you cannot be drinking. If I owned a restaurant I would want my law abiding customers to be able to defend themselves. It is time for the 339,000 permit holders to stand up to Naifeh and his bunch.

Go to the link above and take Bill Hobb's advise. I am.

Here Piggy, Piggy

See how much "pork" your elected officials put onto spending bills here.

Mine stacked up like this:

In the House- David Davis got $42.8 million on 13 projects.

In the Senate- Lamar Alexander got $120.6 million on 60 projects.
Bob Corker got $33.9 million on 12 projects.

Might be time to contact these men to let them know that this kind of spending has got to stop. If you are not satisfied with your representatives you can find their contact info in the sidebar. Simply put your zip code in the box and it will take you where you want to go. Let them know that they are not going to be able to keep on spending money like this.

Just What We Need

More bans on offshore drilling:

The House passes bill that protects the CA coast from offshore drilling and extends the banned area:

California moved a step closer to permanently protecting its shores from offshore oil drilling Monday when the House approved legislation to ban development in federal waters along all 76 miles of Sonoma County’s coastline and off the southern tip of Mendocino County’s coast.

The measure would more than double the size of two existing National Marine Sanctuaries near San Francisco and Marin - Gulf of the Farallones and Cordell Bank. The newly protected zone would stretch from Bodega Bay to Point Arena and would extend about 50 miles off the coast - 2,093 square nautical miles, an area roughly the size of Delaware.

Ronald Reagan Got It

These words from Reagan still apply today:

“The spendthrifts who mangled America with the nightmare of double-digit inflation, record interest rates, unfair tax increases, too much regulation, credit controls, farm embargoes, gas lines, no-growth at home, weakness abroad, and phony excuses about ‘malaise’ are the last people who should be giving sermonettes about fairness and compassion... Believe me, you cannot create a desert, hand a person a cup of water, and call that compassion. You cannot pour billions of dollars into make-work jobs while destroying the economy that supports them and call that opportunity. And you cannot build up years of dependence on government and dare call that hope.” —Ronald Reagan

Harry Reid On The Question "Is Taxation Voluntary?"

Go here to watch the video.

After watching this video I have a few questions: How did this man get elected to the Senate? How was this man elected more than once to the Senate? And finally: How the hell did this man achieve a position of leadership in the Senate of the United States?

Voluntary taxation is not what we have in this country. If you don't believe this, try not paying your taxes for a few years.
